Here are some signs to look out for:
The Freezer is Excessively Loud
You shouldn't be able to hear your freezer from the second floor of your house. If your freezer is making excessively loud knocking or banging sounds, then you need to give us a call. The evaporator coil may need servicing.
Frost Build Up
This could be due to the temperature being too low. First, check to see that the temperature hasn't been set lower than 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Then check to see where the frost is building up. If it's around the door, then the door might not be closing properly. The gaskets may need to be replaced or the defrost heater may need servicing. If you're finding frost at the back of the freezer, then the defrost cycle is faulty.
You can gauge the seriousness of this problem by how much water is leaking. A little splash of water might be a melted ice cube. A puddle could mean that the drain is blocked. If the leak is significant, then you may need to see if a valve or the waterline isn't leaking. There may also be too much condensation in the pan.
Freezer is Not Working
First, check to see if the freezer is plugged in or if the outlet is working properly. If the freezer won't turn on, close the freezer and call us. We can come and replace the controls or carry out any necessary repairs.
Start making sure that the temperature is set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. You should also check how full the freezer is. The freezer should, ideally, be between 70 and 85% full. This allows for the air to circulate properly and ensure that the vents aren't blocked. You should also make sure that the freezer is in the right spot. If the environment around the freezer is too hot or cold, then the freezer will work overtime to maintain the right temperature. The freezer should be somewhere where the outside temperature is between 55- and 100-degrees Fahrenheit.
If none of these tricks help, then the thermostat needs servicing. Give us a call and we'll come fix it.
Don't play a game of charades when it comes to repairing your freezer. Call us and one of our technicians will be out to pinpoint the issue.
